Bee in the Know

Week of November 14, 2021

November is always a month to pause and reflect on all the things for which we are thankful. We at OPHS are thankful for the terrific students and families that make up our school community.   Although this school year has been different in many ways, we are thankful that each of our students are being given an opportunity to continue to learn and grow. As a school, we are truly fortunate to work together with you to make a difference in the lives of our students.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair

The Library is hosting a Barnes and Noble bookfair all day on Saturday, December 4th at the store in Manassas off of Sudley Road.  We encourage all parents, students, grandparents, and friends to do their Christmas shopping there and mention OPHS when making purchases. The proceeds go towards new books for the library. Also, we will have a special historical fiction author J’nell Ciesielski (her books are on Amazon, B&N, and even at Target). She has been a huge supporter of OPHS and we would love to show her the Yellowjacket pride back. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the library at ophs-opLibraryLadies@pwcs.edu

College & Career Spirit Day

On November 15th, we are celebrating college and career pride!  Teachers and staff are encouraged to wear a college t-shirt or sweatshirt on November 15th.  Students who are planning to head to the workforce are encourage to wear a shirt from their current job or a job they aspire to have one day.  Teachers, and other staff, will be having a Classroom Door Decorating Competition.  They will decorate their doors to celebrate the schools they graduated from.  The morning of November 15th, students will have the chance to vote on their favorite doors until November 16th at 7:30 am.

Application Help Sessions

Ms. Jaeger will be holding Application Help Sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, November 16th and 18th, during lunch and after school.  This time will be designated to working on college applications, scholarships, resumes, college essays, or anything the student needs assistance with.  During the lunch sessions, it will be "Brown Bag Lunch" style where students will bring lunch to school and eat in the Career Center during their 25- minute lunch block.  The after school session will be from 2:10-3:30 pm.

Cafeteria

School Counselors will be in the cafeteria on Wednesday and Friday, November 17th and 19th, for any students who may have questions.

Looking for a Summer Job?

Continental Pools will be coming to OPHS on November 15th and 18th during all lunches.  They are looking for high school students to work as lifeguards this coming summer.  Stop by and ask them for an application if you are interested.

Meet our School Psychologist

Hello Yellow Jackets!  My name is Stanley Urbaniak and I am the school psychologist at Osbourn Park.  This is my fourth year here at OP as well as my fourth year living in Virginia.  I provide mental health support and work closely with counseling, administration, and the special education department to best serve all students.  I was born and raised in New Jersey.  I completed my bachelor's degree at Montclair State University and completed my graduate studies at Kean University.  My hobbies include watching sports, road trips, and exploring different cuisines.  Feel free to stop by room 2061 at any time!

Are You Apart of a Military Family-We Appreciate You!

Each November is Military Family Appreciation Month! Established in 1996 by the Armed Services YMCA and the U.S. Government.  Each year, America honors and recognizes those unique sacrifices and challenges family members make in support of their loved ones in uniform. No matter what rank or branch or where life has taken them, our nation’s military families share the common threads of service and sacrifice.

With hundreds of thousands of service members deployed overseas, recognizing the daily sacrifices made by military families has never been more essential. If you are part of a military family or know a military family, please take a moment this Military Appreciation Month to thank the service members. Do not forget to recognize their kids for doing their part and supporting their loved ones!
