Important Information for Seniors planning on attending NOVA in the Fall

Below are the onboarding steps for getting started with NOVA along with information regarding course registration and meeting with an academic advisor. Detailed information for all steps can be found in the recorded Enrollment Prep Presentation located in #5. 


  1. Apply to NOVA  Use this link to access NOVA admission application
    1. First time applicants – Create an Account
    2. Started the application but did not submit – Continue Application
    3. If you have already applied to NOVA, you do not need to reapply. Contact the IT Help desk if you need assistance retrieving your NOVA username and password: 703.426.4141.


  1. Complete Direct Enrollment Advising Survey to determine ENG & MTH placement
    1. Survey can be found here


  1. Secure Financial Source to Pay Tuition
    1. Complete 2022-2023 FAFSA application (if need be). How to Apply for Financial Aid tutorial here.
    2. Virginia State Financial Aid (VASA) - Completed by students who are nonimmigrants, undocumented, have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or are otherwise ineligible to file the FAFSA and would like to be considered for state financial aid. Complete application here.


  1. Review & Resolve Holds/To Do List items in myNOVA account
    1. Access myNOVA portal here


  1. Attend or review the Enrollment Prep Session – Session geared towards getting started at NOVA and preparing to meet with a member of our advising team.
    1. In person (if offered at HS) or
    2. Virtual (Link to Enrollment Prep PowerPoint - / Link to Recorded Enrollment Prep Presentation


  1. Complete New2Nova Orientation – Provides students with an introduction to NOVA. Includes information about academic programs, policies, procedures, student services and NOVA resources.

  1. Review Program of Study + Create Draft Schedule
    1. Students can review requirements for degree here: NOVA Programs of Study
    2. This Guide to Registration handout can assist students with preparing for registration. It does not need to be submitted but instead, serves as a guide to help students navigate the registration process.


  1. Meet with an advisor to finalize schedule. Meet with an advisor in person, virtually, or during an Advising 100 session.
    1. Students should have attended both an enrollment prep session and the New2NOVA orientation BEFORE meeting with an advisor
    2. Students should have a proposed schedule for a member of the advising team to review and finalize for registration.
