Week of February 21, 2021

We are beyond thrilled to be welcoming back our Yellow Jackets who’ve selected in-person instruction, to the building this week and next! The school has not felt the same in a year and this return to some normalcy is both exciting and challenging. We’ve been planning and preparing for our students return for months. Our mitigation strategies are in place and we are ready to have students in our hallways and classrooms again! We are all in this together and our students can be confident that they will continue to receive the same high-quality instruction, whether they are in person or joining us virtually.

For those students joining us in person this week and next, please remember to bring your charged laptops, earbuds, and water bottles. We will provide laptop cases for all PWCS issued devices. Students will receive these from their first period teachers.

We know that this is a big change for our students and staff and that it will take some time getting used to this new schedule. As we’ve done all year, we will face this new change with patience, flexibility, and grace. Thanks again for your ongoing support. More information will be forthcoming so keep checking your e-mails as we work together to start this new model of learning.


Important Dates for Hybrid Instruction Change-over

As we transition to our hybrid model of instruction, we will welcome our in-person 9th graders beginning February 25th, and in-person 10th-12th graders will follow on March 2nd. With this instructional model change, there will be a change in the bell schedule for all students with a start time of 7:30am for every student. Also, with this change in start time, comes a change in the rotation of blue and gold days. Students will have two blue days (Tuesday & Wednesday) followed by two gold days (Thursday and Friday). Monday will remain asynchronous for all students. Students can log into StudentVue to find out if they are VO (virtual only), T/R (Tues/Thurs in person) or W/F (Wed/Fri in person).

Tuesday, Feb. 23: All students virtual, follow new schedule below. 7:30 start time.

Thursday, Feb. 25: 9th grade TR (Tues/Thur) in-person students return, all other students virtual. 7:30 start time

Friday, Feb. 26: 9th grade WF (Wed/Fri) in-person students return, all other students virtual. 7:30 start time

Monday, March 1: Virtual workday for students and staff

Tuesday, March 2: 10th – 12th grade TR (Tues/Thurs) in-person students return (9th grade students continue in person, per house assignment)

PWCS Laptop Loaner Information

If you have not yet picked up your PWCS issued loaner device, please use the link below to complete our electronic loaner agreement form. Once this form is submitted, you may pick the device up at door #1 anytime between 8am and 4pm, Monday through Friday. We strongly encourage the device to be picked up prior to the 1st day of in person learning, however, if it is not picked up, we will have the device available that day provided we have a loaner agreement form on file.

Freshman Orientation

We will provide an additional freshman orientation opportunity for our in-person 9th graders on February 25 and 26. Our in-person freshman students will be able to tour the building with Senior Buddies so that they can familiarize themselves with the great halls of OPHS. Virtual only freshmen will be excused from the second half of their first period class on both of these dates. Freshmen are encouraged to review the Freshman Festival Canvas course to familiarize themselves ahead of their return.


Bus Information

For those students joining us in-person this week, please be sure to check your bus schedule in ParentVue or StudentVue. Students will be seated socially distant on their bus. Seats will only be shared when siblings from the same household are riding the bus. We will not be honoring bus passes this year and students will not be able to ride a different bus for any reason. As in years past, parents will be able to utilize the Here Comes the Bus app when in-person instruction resumes.


Safety Reminders

All students returning to the building will be required to wear a mask at all times. The only exception to this will be while eating breakfast or lunch. Students who do not have a mask will be provided one before entering the building. Students must remain six feet apart in hallways. Markers have been placed on the floors to indicate six feet of distance. Hallways and stairwells are directional and students and staff must follow all signage. Desks will be cleaned in between each class and lunch desks will be cleaned after each lunch shift. Students should also bring a reusable water bottle each day. Water fountains have been turned off but our water bottle fillers are available for use.


Restroom Information

During the closure, our security staff painted the doorway of each of our restrooms in the building. Students will only be able to utilize the restroom closest to their classroom, to minimize traffic in hallways. Hall passes are color coded to indicate which restroom students should use, based off of their classroom location. Teachers will review this new protocol with students.


Breakfast and Lunch Information

Breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge to all students who wish to partake. Meals will be grab-and-go, and students will be assigned a seat for their meals. Desks have been spaced six feet apart in the meal areas so that students are able to remove their masks safely to eat their meals.


Teacher Office Hour Changes

Our teachers will continue to offer office hours for all students. With the change in schedule, there will be standing office hours on Monday (see schedule below).
