Bee in the Know

Week of October 4, 2020

Wow, it is already October! It has been a busy start to the school year. I am proud to say even with the challenges of virtual learning, it has been an incredibly successful start to the 2020-2021 school year. While we have had a successful start of the year, we are aware of the issues virtual instruction presents for our teachers, students, and parents. We are working to adjust our classroom expectations, modify assessment protocol, and make other adjustments in the best interests of our students. A huge thank you to our students, parents, teachers, and staff who are working to make the best of this unique year. Be safe!

Additions to our Website

We are excited to share two new additions to our website that will improve our ability to keep the OP community informed and allow a more convenient alternative to student absence reporting for parents. On our homepage, you will notice two new buttons, Communications and Attendance. The Communications button houses each of the weekly Bee in the Know newsletters as well as a record of community emails and letters. The Attendance Button allows parents to report absences and request early release virtually instead of sending in letter.

Return to Learn Survey

Parents and guardians may now use ParentVUE to update your choice for your student(s) attending in-person or virtual in the second quarter starting in November. The choice is open through Sunday, October 4, 2020. If you do not need to update your selections, no action is needed. If no selections are made at all, your student’s enrollment option will default to in-person.

Face Coverings will be required for in-person learning

A minimum of three feet of physical distancing is required for students attending in-person under the 50/50 hybrid models. As such, face coverings will be required for all staff and students the majority of the school day to include: in hallways between classes, common areas, classrooms, and on school buses.

Virtual Activities Fair on 10/8

There will be a Virtual Activities Fair on 10/8 for students to learn a little more about opportunities available at Osbourn Park HS. Students will have the opportunity to enroll in the "Virtual Activities Fair Course" and then peruse a variety of the different sports/clubs/activities we have available here at OP. At the end of the instructional day (during office hours) students may be able to zoom (depending on availability) with club sponsors and or club leaders to learn a little more about that club. We encourage all Yellow Jackets to get involved!

Concussion and Physical Collection

There will be another concussion and physical collection day on 10/13. Collection will take place in the Drivers Ed Lot from 4PM to 5:30PM. This collection will be a drive thru collection (enter the gate closest to the tennis courts). Please make sure all pages of the forms are signed and filled out properly. Additionally, on page 3 of the physical form, make sure your doctor’s office has placed their stamp on the page and the physical is dated after May 1, 2020. This will be a drive thru collection. Please stay in your car and follow the signs.

PSAT Testing - October 14th and 29th

If your student is signed up to take the PSAT test they will be taking the test on either October 14 (10th graders) or October 29 (11th graders). Students will be taking the PSAT test at their base high school. More information will be shared with parents and students who are taking the test prior to the test day. Please make sure to bring a student ID or other form of picture identification, a calculator (we will have loaners available if needed), and number two pencils.

All instruction on the 14th and 29th will be asynchronous and there will be no mandatory live lessons on either of those days.

Registering for Advanced Placement (AP) Tests

All students taking AP tests should have received or will be receiving their join code and instructions on how to register for their AP test from their AP teacher. Students please register for your AP tests as soon as possible. If any student is having trouble registering for their AP test, contact College Board at 888-225-5427. The school code is 471345.
